As we become more and more dependent on smartphones, computers and our online existences, we’re becoming more awash in eClutter. Whether it’s hundreds of old emails, our outmoded laptops, cellphone or devices, or too many logins for too many accounts, our lives become more inter-meshed and complicated when it comes to our digital lives.

And yes-it’s just as easy to have digital clutter as it is clutter in our home. In fact, that same virtual clutter can very easily contribute & lead to more clutter IRL…that’s ‘In Real Life‘!

In conjunction with Rapid Refill and Urban E Recycling, we’re supporting “Electronics for a Cause,” offering free recycling of consumer electronics. Recycling proceeds will benefit Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, Inc. (KTBB), a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide environmental education and volunteer opportunities that develop individual responsibility and environmental stewardship. Since 1989, KTBB has formed partnerships with local governments, corporations, schools and neighborhood organizations to engage individuals and provide opportunities to enhance the community through volunteer participation.

Office and household used electronics can be dropped off at

Rapid Refill Ink, 10416 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa,

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The following items will be accepted for proper recycling:

Computers (desktop and laptop), servers, hard drives, circuit boards, UPS battery backups, monitors, printers, copiers, DVD players, VCRs, modems, cable boxes, satellite receivers, routers, lead acid non-spillable batteries, lithium ion batteries, cell phones, telephones, phone system hardware, insulated cable, all metals associated with electronics, video game systems and ink and toner cartridges.

Those wishing to donate large items, such as big screens or a large quantity of items, should arrange for pick-up by contacting Rapid Refill Ink at (813) 514-0680.

Urban E Recycling will wipe hard drives off-site and provide a data destruction certificate. The $5 fee will be donated to Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful.

The event will also feature secure on-site document shredding for a discounted fee of .79/lb.

Local ordinances require that electronics be disposed of in a proper manner and not placed with normal household or office trash. Over 85 percent of all electronic waste (E-waste) goes un-recycled, with millions of tons entering the waste stream every year. The average American household has at least 24 electronic items. E-waste can contain more than 1,000 components, many of which are toxic.
