Your Summer Organization Plan-Room by Room!
If the temperatures haven’t been indicative enough, June 21st signifies that we’ve officially moved into the summer season. For some parents, now that younger kids are home for summer break for a few weeks before your children go away for camp or out of state to visit relatives, your home is probably filled with activity again…which means keeping up with cleaning, let alone organizing, is an unlikely proposition.
But the reality is that disorganization and clutter don’t wait for anyone! The build up causes more problems down the road, especially when you have an additional one or two little bodies running around the house. That said, if you don’t take the time, you’ll eventually have to pay the price of spending time clearing out built up clutter when you least have it.
So how do you get started?
- The first point would be to look at your calendar & schedule a window of time to organize. Yes, busy people typically don’t get much of a let up, but if your children are going out of town for a few weeks this summer, you’ll be given an unobstructed window of time where you can best focus your efforts. This hopefully allows you the chance to achieve your goals.
- Next, what are your goals for organization? Start to think of the time & amount of organization needed, and what rooms where clutter has taken over or where you know messiness & disorganization are causing real problems in your home.
- Assign a room or area of decluttering to your schedule. This breaks down some of your organizational goals into reasonable, bite-size chunks that easily fit onto your calendar.
Sometimes, a little organization before you organize can make a real difference in achieving some of those goals in a narrow window of time.
Next week, we’ll start to focus on the rooms, trouble areas where you may be experiencing clutter build up & how to tailor goals to get your summer organizational plan on track!
