Last week we talked about initiating your room-by-room summer organization plan. As we mentioned, planning ahead is the key to making sure the organization process goes smoothly. If you’ve scheduled time to start your work & set your goals, now it’s time a pick your room to kick off the organization plan!

We’ll start with the bathroom first. Certainly prone to counter clutter, the bathroom seems to be a fly-over area; people come and go but leave a lot of their stuff on counters and drawers, which lends itself to a potential build up of clutter. The main focus here is to make a sweep of the obvious, obstructive stuff that prevents you from getting to the items that may need the most help.

had a great plan to get you through the initial bathroom decluttering which, depending on the size of your bathroom only takes 20 minutes to run though:
What You’ll Need:

A timer, a trash bin, hamper, a recycling bin and a catch-all bin.

  1. Place your hamper in the doorway and step into the bathroom. It’s time to declutter!
  2. Toss any dirty hand towels, face cloths and bath towels into your hamper.
  3. Replace dirty towels with fresh ones from the linen closet.
  4. Move any laundry from the floor into the hamper.
  5. Trash or recycle items like used tissues, empty toiletry bottles, empty paper towels rolls, etc.
  6. Fill your catch-all bin or bag with anything that belongs in another room. Look especially for things that don’t belong in the bathroom, like clothing, shoes and jewelry.
  7. Sweep the sink/counter top and replace items that are out of place.
  8. If your jewelry keeps finding it’s way into the bathroom, maybe try storing your everyday jewelry in the bathroom.
  9. Next do the same in your drawers and under the sink.
  10. Re-store any items that found their way into the wrong spot.
  11. If an item keeps popping up in the wrong spot, consider moving it to a new home. Example: A makeup brush that keeps making its way out of the drawer its supposed to “live” in might be better off in a jar by your sink.
  12. Take the hamper and bring laundry to laundry room.

Next week, we’ll dig a little deeper into the bathroom organizational process & move to vanities, medicine cabinets & bathroom closets!
