We’ve dealt with the the vanity, drawers and medicine cabinet, so this week we’re tacking the last feature of the bathroom-the bathroom closet. Depending on whether your closet is en suite or near the bathroom, the linen closet seems to be an often ignored aspect of the bathroom, but it can be a hotbed of disorganized dysfunction. That said, using a linen closet to its’ fullest can help keep the bathroom ecosystem clean and organized.

You’ll need:

  • Dividers or storage boxes
  • Broom or Vacuum
  • Spray cleaner & towels
  • Garbage Bag
  • Permanent Marker & Labels

Much like last week, you’ll want to survey your closet beforehand & take a quick inventory of the items in your closet. If you’re seeing some odds and ends & random bottles, take some measurements of your closet & visit the organizational department of your local Target, Wal-Mart or Bed, Bad & Beyond and buy some organizing boxes or dividers.

Now to get started!

  • Begin by pulling out your towels and sheets and place them in a clean spot. Remove any toiletries, boxes or additional items and put them in an easy to view pile.
  • Now that you can see what you have in your piles, grab your garbage bag & start sorting through some of the items you’ve pulled. Are there half full boxes, and can they be condensed or grouped into smaller similar items? If they can, sort those items out into similar boxes & throw out the old containers or unused items. A good step at this point is also to label those boxes to keep things organized in the future.
  • Step over to your pile of linens & make sure all your items are folded and organized.
  • Now, go over to your closet, grab your spray bottle & towels and spray and wipe your closet shelves.
  • Moving on, now grab your vacuum or broom & dustpan and sweep the area.
  • Now that the closet itself is clean, you can start placing items back into the closet. Frequency of use & need for access should take priority in your replacement of items, so if you have little ones who can’t reach the top shelves for towels, take that into consideration!
  • If you have the capability, you may also want to label shelf spots as you place your linen items back in the closet. Preventative steps can help keep your and your family organized in the future!

In under a half hour, you should be able to complete cleaning, organizing and create room in your linen closet! Next week, we’ll be moving onto the bedroom…
